The Alberta Water For Life Strategy for Sustainability (Alberta Water Policy Framework), and the Land Use Framework are introducing new requirements for municipalities and industry to participate in water management. Our Sustainability Speaker Seminars provide municipalities, industry leaders, and professionals across multiple resource management professions with working knowledge of water management policy and resource management tools.
This Half-Day Seminar delivered by Lisa Maria Fox will introduce Alberta’s Water for Life Strategy for Sustainability, explore the roles and functions of the governance structures (Alberta Water Council, WPACs, Watershed Stewardship Groups) and provide a brief overview of the renewed provincial commitment and related expectations of provincial stakeholders in water management. Participants will learn about the Alberta Land Stewardship Act (ALSA) as it relates to sub-regional planning, watershed objectives, and resource conservation plans. This seminar will also explore how watershed planning and municipal water management strategies integrate into setting and achieving regional water quality objectives.
Seminar Activities: Participants are invited to engage in discussions with a representative from the Government of Alberta (Alberta Environment & Water), engage in an interactive session of mapping watershed assets, identifying key stakeholders and processes for advancing watershed objectives through the development of a watershed management plan for the Lesser Slave Watershed.
