The Learning Resources that we offer are designed to empower Municipalities, Industry, Watershed Planning and Advisory Council members, Community Groups, Academics, and Professionals to understand and take part in sustainable resource management and sustainable community planning.

Our Sustainable Community and Water Management Resources contain a diverse selection of modular courses that can be harnessed into a full day workshop or ½ day workshop. These custom designed workshops give participants practical understanding of regional and provincial resource management and community development policies and expectations.

Sustainability Resources offers both the Sustainable Water Resource Management and the Sustainable Communities Learning Resources with host partners in communities across Alberta.

Sustainable Communities

Our Sustainable Communities Learning Program helps participants understand community sustainability planning, opportunities for action in their communities, and the relationship between local, regional, and provincial sustainability policy frameworks. Topics covered include Genuine Wealth, Triple Bottom Line, Natural Step, Community Re-Development, LEED Communities, Smart Growth, and Sustainability 101.

Sustainable Water Resource Management

Our Water Resource Management Learning Program increases understanding about watershed planning, the relationships between Alberta’s Water For Life Strategy and regional and local planning objectives, and the tools for integrating sustainable water management practices into local management plans. Topics covered include Conservation, Efficiency & Productivity Planning, Watershed Objectives, Land Use Framework, Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils, and Hydrology 101.

NEW: Community Resilience

Understanding the various components of Transition Towns and principles of Permaculture are an important part of defining community transition to a new economy.  Community Resilience and adaptation to the volatility of a changing climate requires us to have an understanding of the benefits of community supported agriculture, renewable energy solutions, community finance, and new models of community design.
