Sustainability Resources offers professional training opportunities in the areas of Project Management, Stakeholder Management, and Facilitator Training for Resource Associates. The skills covered in each of these programs will improve your abilities to work on sustainability projects and will enrich your knowledge and skills in your individual field.

Project Management & Planning for Sustainability

This two day Certificate Course on the front end project planning processes, takes the participants through a complete project definition and planning cycle, and looks at the implementation and control cycle. Creating Project Charters, Deliverable Work Breakdown Structures, Sequencing and Scheduling methods and their advantages and uses are covered in some detail, as are aspects of risk identification and risk mitigation, including stakeholder analysis.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have the confidence and the skills to prepare and present a Project Charter, and to use the most important project planning tools to define and organize their projects. In addition, they will be able to clearly communicate their project and project needs to others including their management, to seek the required approvals, and to control the project in its implementation phase. Participants find that most tools and techniques learned can be applied in their workplace the very next day.

Stakeholder Identification and Management

This one day course focuses on tools and techniques to identify and assess a project's partners/stakeholders needs, wants and expectations. Attention is paid to partners/stakeholders spheres of influence, including strategies to mitigate or enhance such influences. Based on a environmental project case study, participants will identify impacts of partner/stakeholder requirements to the project's scope.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have the confidence and the skills to prepare and present a Partner /Stakeholder Matrix, will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of Partners/Stakeholders
  • Be familiar with current approaches, techniques and systems for managing Partners/Stakeholders
  • Understand the Project Partners/Stakeholder Consultation Process
  • Understand concepts, tools and techniques that will allow them to communicate more effectively

The course is given in workshop fashion. Theory is explained, followed by an exercise to demonstrate its application and reinforce its meaning. Exercises are conducted in a team format, thereby enhancing participant team-building knowledge and skills. Participants benefit from being able to conduct peer reviews and practicing presentation skills in an informal, forgiving, learning environment. Peer reviews are an integral part of the workshop, and result in a very positive and meaningful learning experience.

Facilitator Training for Resource Associates

Our Facilitator Training program is comprised of half day sessions designed to engage Resource Associates in the content and practical tools that are being promoted in our Learning Resources. These sessions enable our Resource Associates to become familiar with the curriculum being delivered and to share tools and techniques for engaging communities in learning and applying knowledge. These tools and techniques for facilitation and learning are adaptive to the personal leadership style of the Facilitator and to the content being explored in the workshops.

*This Training program for Resource Associates is being delivered upon demand and is currently a free service with Membership as a Resource Associate.
